DRIVER, PLEASE! USING APPS TO ACCESS SAFE TRANSPORTATION

As mentioned above, if all of the individuals in a group have been drinking, it is in everyone’s best interest to look for alternative modes of transportation. Options include public transportation, taxis and newer driving services (usually restricted to larger cities) like Uber or Lyft. One way to ensure easy access to these services is to preload the contact numbers for the respective transportation modes into your phone or download the apps on your smartphone. As well, most public transport routes have an app that tells you exactly when the next bus or train is coming. Apps like Uber and Lyft summon drivers who are in your immediate area and let you know approximately how long it will be before pickup (see Tip 5.4). These apps make it easy to track your ride and communicate with the driver at the touch of a button (no talking necessary!). You can also enter your destination in advance so that the driver arrives ready to get you home safely.
